Sam Mathis
Graphic Evolution is owned and operated by Sam Mathis in Salt Lake City, UT. Sam spent his childhood in Utah where he grew up in his dads custom paint shop, Color Dynamics. C.D. was the premier shop in Salt
Lake City if you wanted custom paint work. Beautiful hotrods and motorcycles were always coming in and
going out, and it was here that Sam began learning skills like paint masking and airbrushing from his
dad Larry. In 1993 Color Dynamics purchased a small vinyl plotter used for cutting custom stencils and
graphics, and it wasn't long after that Sam realized what he wanted to do. With assistance from his
dad, Sam became the lead designer at Color Dynamics. Creating custom stencils for Harley-Davidson
tanks, graphics and pinstripes on cars and trucks, and the occasional sign and decal, Sam was obsessed
with the idea of computer generated custom graphics.
In 1998 Color Dynamics closed it's doors and Sam went on to work for a local sign shop in Salt Lake City.
It was a great experience for him to work with other designers and installers in the same field, but
something was missing. Sam missed the cars, trucks, and bikes. The custom jobs that filled him with pride.
It wasn't long before Sam Left to pursue his own dreams. In 1999 He became partners in a company called
M-Graphics & Sign which would be focused more on vehicle graphics, fleet graphics, and decals. For the
next three years, Sam and his partner Wade created a name for themselves doing what they did best; Creating
customized graphics, logos, and decals while striving to provide the best customer service on the planet.
In late 2001, Sams wife Shauna recieved a job offer too good to pass up, so they left Utah for Portland, OR where Sam worked for a local sign shop called Sign Wizards. While the the name had you chuckling, there was nothing funny about the amazing signage they created. Although he wasn't working on vehicles every day, Sam learned a whole new side to vinyl and what was truely possible. A world class shop, Sign Wizards had such clientel as Nike, IBM, and Columbia Outerwear to name a few. Sam learned how to work masterfully with new materials such as acrylic and aluminum. It was another great skill that he added to his resume.
Late in 2002 Sam and his wife moved back to Salt Lake City and he began working for another local shop, but
it didn't take long for word to spread that Sam was back! After an enormous amount of phone calls from
frieds and past clients requesting that he start his own shop again, he began to plan his next move. Within
2 months of being back in Salt Lake, Graphic Evolution, Inc. was formed. and the rest as they say is History.
For the last ten years Sam Mathis has been designing and creating some of the highest quality graphics ever seen. His work has been seen at the SEMA show in Las Vegas, featured on CNN and local television, and printed in magazines and newspapers. Some of Graphic Evolutions clientel are companies such as Ebay, Oakley sunglasses, and General Motors to name a few. Graphic Evolution specializes in the design, manufacturing, and installation of vinyl graphics on just about everything. Logo design, decal printing, full wraps, stripes and graphics.
